At 6,400', we'll be nestled in the beautiful 400-acre alpine lake basin of Camp Unalayee, just six hours north of San Francisco. Surrounded by rugged peaks and saw-tooth ridges, we’ll live outside and camp under the stars. Dozens of jewel-like lakes and clear-flowing streams are within easy hiking distance of the Camp basin, providing destinations for day-hikes, swimming and solitude.
Waking up early, our mornings will be held in silence and begin with yoga and meditation, followed by breakfast and a quiet hike.
With options for either full or half-day hikes, lunch will be on the trail or back at camp. The afternoon choices include arts & crafts, creative writing, meditation, swimming in the lake or even a taking a nap. The choice is yours!
At the end of the day's adventures, we'll come together for a talk and dinner. After dinner we'll meet around a campfire for the evening meditation and return to silence until after breakfast the next morning.
We'll enjoy fresh vegetarian meals with accommodation for those with dietary limitations. In support of our contemplative practice, this retreat will be free of recreational drugs and alcohol.
This is a wilderness adventure. There is no electricity, cell service or indoor plumbing, but there are pit toilets and solar showers. Our women's retreat will be supported by the Camp staff which may include men.

Heidi Bourne is the founder of Pacific Mindfulness. She has been teaching mindfulness meditation - guiding groups and individuals - since 2005. With a background in both secular mindfulness and Buddhist insight meditation, she especially loves combining practices of mindful awareness with wilderness adventure. Heidi holds certification in mindfulness facilitation from UCLA and is a guest teacher at Spirit Rock Meditation Center in Woodacre, California.
Laurie Cousins is a mindfulness meditation teacher with special expertise in mindful self-compassion, addiction and recovery from trauma for children, teens and families. She holds certification in mindfulness facilitation from UCLA and UCSD. Laurie is a lead teacher for Susan Kaiser Greenland's Inner Kids Program and is the Family Programming Advisor at the La Maida Institute in Los Angeles.
Donna Rudolf is a teacher, writer, and long-time meditation practitioner. She lived in the Bay Area until retiring with her husband to the Trinity Alps in 2015, where she facilitates a sitting group, writes, teaches poetry and dance, grows things, and walks a lot.
Janine Melzer teaches Forrest Yoga as a way to support and inspire students to become their most genuine selves. She is passionately committed to getting people turned on to embodying spirit in their yoga practice and in their lives. Janine asks her students to bring a willingness to work honestly at their edges without struggling, clearing the way to find delight in every breath.
