"There is no such thing as sitting FOR peace; we will sit IN peace. —Thich Nhat Hanh
In 2012, the monastics of Plum Village France wanted to organize a sit for peace in Trafalgar Square in London in response to ongoing unrest in Afghanistan. When Thich Nhat Hanh heard about their plan, he responded, “There is no such thing as sitting for peace. We will sit in peace.”
In this 4-week series, led by Ashley Wilson, we will explore the practice of sitting in peace and cultivating beloved community in this time of national and global turmoil and uncertainty. What is the connection between our daily mindfulness practices and our prayer for peace? How is meditation connected to activism? What is beloved community and why is it critical to individual and collective liberation?
Each hour-long session will include meditation, a short teaching, and ample time for deep sharing, listening, and learning from each other. Suggested home practices will also be offered as a way to refresh your formal and informal practice anew.
“Sitting in Peace” is designed for both beginners and those with established meditation practices. Everyone is welcome.
